LAGCOE TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASE: MEYER GEN-3 SPYDER GREASE MANIFOLD
Meyer’s Gen-3 Spyder Grease Manifold enhances frac performance by reducing rig-up time and nonproductive time, and eliminating the need for rig personnel to enter the “red zone” during frac operations.
"We were seeing operators incur up to 36 hrs of downtime, because wellheads weren't being adequately supplied with grease," Meyer's Noel McKim told a LAGCOE audience on Wednesday. The new system enables grease to be administered automatically, and managed remotely, to ensure performance. The manifold system allows a single operator to remotely grease valves individually, without repeated rig-ups and rig-downs, providing a safer, more ergonomic work environment.
The PLC-controlled system allows grease to be managed manually, or automatically, following a series of application-specific protocols. Tailored to wellhead sizes, the stage-based grease modes track total pressure applied and pounds of grease used, while automatically focusing on the parts of the wellhead that need grease the most during a specific operation. Online data reporting and tracking enables entire fleets to be managed from anywhere in the world.
Operators of the system report positive results, with one performing 1,200 frac stages, pumping more than 21 million pounds of sand, all while realizing zero downtime and no valve damage. Reflecting the safety that the system brings to frac operations, another operator reportedly performed a 21-day frac operation with zero man-hours logged in the red zone.
